The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management
will begin the “Scott Boulevard-Peavine Creek Watershed Improvement Project
Phase I” on October 10, 2007, following a meeting with the community on
Tuesday, October 9, 2007, 7pm, at Fernbank Elementary School, 157 Heaton
Park Drive, Atlanta, GA 30307.
The County’s contractor for this project, Portland
Utilities, will complete upgrades to the sewer main and pipes along Peavine
Creek near Scott Boulevard, increasing the capacity of the system to prevent
Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO). This will result in better protection of
residents and the environment. The increased capacity of the system will
be created by replacing existing ten (10”) inch sewer pipes with pipes up
to twenty (20”) inches in diameter. This will be done by a process known as
“pipe bursting,” a standard and safe technique that makes it possible to
replace damaged pipelines and enlarge the size of functional pipelines.
Commissioners Jeff Rader and Kathie Gannon, in
conjunction with the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management, will
host the October 9th community meeting during which the Department and
contractor will answer questions, address concerns, and provide detailed
information on how residents can remain informed as the work is completed. The
Scott Boulevard-Peavine Creek Watershed Improvement Project Phase I will create
a better quality of life for DeKalb County residents and increase the long-term
safety, reliability, and environmental integrity of the County’s sewer and
water system.
Citizens are encouraged to participate in the community
meeting. The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management and Portland
Utilities will make every effort to minimize disturbance to citizens’ property
and daily activities during the process.
