The Snapfinger
Wastewater Treatment Plant in south central DeKalb
County operates above 80 percent capacity during
periods of intense storms. This is due to intrusion
of stormwater into the sanitary sewer system, therefore
the county has instituted a program to decrease
flows by reducing infiltration and inflow (I&I)
of rainwater and groundwater into the system. Construction
of a 20 million gallon surge tank was completed
in January 2003. The tank allows equalization of
flows to and through the plant. The total project
cost was $6.9 million.
